How to use Google Voice?

Hmm... So i just downloaded the software and it worked fine.... now I can't seem to re-access the number pad I used to place a phone call... How can I access the number pad and actually make a call again? Google keeps sending me in a big circle with my list of contacts.... none of which I can actually call now....
