What's the difference between buying a synthesizer(Korg M3) vs a midi controller with lots of VST's installed?

If you're using only digital synthesizers, there's not a whole lot of difference. You'd be better off with a MIDI controller and a collection of VST's; you'll have more options. The only true advantage of hardware synths would be if you want something analog. VST's can't emulate analog accurately.
